Helping the Food Insecure

While food banks and soup kitchens work hard to provide food assistance to families in need, federal programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) (https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program-snap) are able to reach many more people in need.  Food banks help fill in the gaps, but we need federal assistance programs, such as snap to care for our hungry citizens.  SNAP is funded through the federal Farm Bill, and we must take steps to ensure that it is not cut.  SNAP helps nearly 1.8 million people buy groceries every month, and lifts families out of poverty.  It also supports agriculture, jobs and retailers.  SNAP is a good investment.  Every dollar SNAP redeems expands the economy by approximately $1.70.  The $2.6 billion in SNAP dollars issued in Pennsylvania generated $4.6 billion dollars.  So, where would we all be without it?

Please contact your Representatives and Senators in Congress and tell them that an investment in SNAP to voice your support for this important program.  Feeding the hungry is not a hand-out, it is sharing the bounty we already have.  When one benefits, we all do.
