Something For The Kids

My TOMS backpacks arrived just the other day.  They are extremely well made and sturdy with lots of compartments and room for everything a kid could possibly need.  I have started filling them up, and I am having a great time with this project.  One of the backpacks will be filled with school supplies, the other backpack will be filled with items for a child being placed in foster care.  In the back to school backpack I have packed crayons, pencils, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Long Haul”, Scissors, a mini supply kit, two jumbo erasers and three glue sticks.  And I still have a ton of room!  The pencils, supply kit, pencils and erasers are from a company called Yoobi (www.yoobi.com).     Yoobi means one for you, one for me (Right, I don’t get it either.  Maybe it’s a different language).  For every Yoobi item purchased, a Yoobi item will be donated to a classroom in need, right here in the US.  I got my Yoobi stuff at Target.  You can either get yours there or shop directly on-line.  The Yoobi items are incredibly stylish and colorful.  I’m going for a triple-dip here.  The backpack helps fight bullying, the Yoobi products help supply school supplies for a needy classroom, and the entire backpack will be given to a child in need.

Sadly, sometimes children have to be taken from their homes and placed into foster care, usually for heart-breaking reasons.  In doing research regarding this, I’ve learned that many children are taken and placed with only the clothes on their back.  The items needed in the backpacks could include a blanket, a stuffed animal, pajamas, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a hairbrush, a book and/or coloring book and a toy.  I know that there is a need for these backpacks, but to be honest, I’m not sure yet where exactly to donate this.  I will probably contact the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Services or some foster agencies.

These children won’t have a home, but they will have something to call their own.

I was in a local department store today, the Bon Ton, to try to get some warm weather shoes.  Well, lo and behold, in the shoe department there were signs for Soles4Souls.  The Bon Ton is currently selling $3 coupons to benefit Soles4Souls.  Between April 20 – 26, 2016, this coupon can be redeemed for $3 off your purchase.  A win-win situation if I ever saw one.

April is Autism Awareness Month and Earth Day is April 22.  But, actually every day is Earth Day.
